I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and spent the first 22 years of my life there. After high school, I attended the University of Calgary and I received a Bachelors of Science in Physics.
After taking a short-term job in industry with an electrical motor company in Edmonton, I decided to pursue graduate school in Astronomy and moved to Winnipeg to get my Master of Science in Physics, then on to London (Ontario) to get my PhD in Astronomy.
During graduate school, I became deeply involved with coordinating and developing science education and public outreach (EPO) programs, and that is where I discovered my love of teaching and being in the classroom. I continued working in EPO for a few years before I finally applied to the BEd program to get formal training as an educator.
Something else that makes me unique is I suffered a severe stroke in 2013, six days after my second son was born. The struggles I faced (and continue to face) during my recovery have made me more understanding and empathetic to the struggles of others and I believe this had made me a better educator.
I have taught in a variety of settings (please see my teaching page), and I am excited to move forward in my career as a math and science educator!
Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions at [email protected]
